A WFP truck driver was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in Jonglei State, authorities said.

According to Jonglei State’s Information Minister, Elizabeth Nyadak, 10 trucks loaded with WFP foodstuffs were ambushed by a suspected armed group from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area on Sunday morning at around 9 a.m. while on their way to Duk County.

“There was an incident this morning [Sunday] at 9 a.m. There were ten WFP trucks full of food items going to northern Jonglei State and Duk County that were attacked by armed criminals from the Pibor Administrative Area,” Nyadak said.

She said the other nine trucks were able to speed off but the criminals managed to seize one truck and kill its driver.

“The 10 trucks were attacked and nine of them were able to speed away. The other truck that has remained behind was ambushed by the criminals and they killed the driver. So, that is what they did,” she stated.

According to Nyadak, the trucks were dispatched by the WFP to Duk County to distribute food ration to the IDPs and returnees in the area.

She added, “The other nine trucks have arrived in Duk County. It is only the truck attacked whose driver was killed that worries people now. The criminals did something bad.”
