South Sudan, Egypt strengthen bilateral ties

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, said South Sudan will continue to strengthen its bilateral relationship with Egypt.

In a statement seen by The City Review on Tuesday, Pitia said South Sudan and Egypt have promised to strengthen education and help in capacity building for government employees.

He said South Sudanese students will be free from Egypt’s recent education policy enrolment requirements in higher learning institutions.

According to him, the decision was made during President Kiir’s recent visit to Cairo where the two heads of state held a bilateral meeting.

He revealed that the two leaders also discussed ways to resolve the Sudan’s conflict.

Also, he said President Kiir’s recent participation in the Saudi-Africa Summit had brought new partnerships between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and African countries in areas of development, security, economics, and trade.

On November 6, 2023, President Kiir met his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and agreed to foster cooperation between South Sudan and Egypt.

The meeting was to bolster strategic partnership between the two countries in areas of capacity development.

However, Kiir and El-Sisi acceded to redouble efforts in resolving the Sudan’s ongoing conflict, noting that dialogue is the only solution to ending the war in the country.
