The administration of the University of Juba hatched a plan for the facelift of the customs campus at a cost of $3 million.

The varsity is planning a fundraiser tomorrow to raise money to build modern facilities that will ensure quality education for the students.

While addressing the media yesterday, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof. John Akec, said the plan to modernise the campus will be feasible when the public owns the progress of the university by contributing to its development kitty.

“This is a general briefing to the public about the ongoing campaign to raise $3 million for the construction of a new lecture hall complex that would also contain a library with 1000 seats and then a wing of mixed uses including computer labs, seminar rooms, and business areas,” he said.

He added that the new complex will cost a little more than $3 million and will be completed within 8 months.

According to Prof Akec, whatever amount is contributed by the public on Thursday, it will reduce the $100 imposed on each student as development fees.

“If we are able to raise half of that value, then the students will pay half, once this campaign is successful and we are able to actually build that,” he said.

He added, “There is a massive expansion in the postgraduate programs. At the moment, the number ranges between 3000- 4000, and our target is that by 2030, we should have 10,000 [people] studying at the postgraduate level, we also plan that by 2030, the student population should be about 60,000,” he said.
