Zimbabwe call for removal of decades-old sanctions

The Zimbabwean embassy implored the international community to unconditionally remove all the sanctions imposed on the country.

According to the press statement issued by the Embassy in commemoration of Anti-Sanctions Day, Harare lamented suffering under sanctions for more than 20 years.

For the above reasons, the embassy called on the international community to respect the regional block and unchain the South African country.

“The 25th of October 2022, marks the fourth time the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as a regional block, is calling for the unconditional and immediate removal of all forms of sanctions and other punitive measures imposed on Zimbabwe,” the statement partially read.

The Embassy disputed the notion that the sanctions were merely put on some people, arguing that they had more negative effects on the whole country and the block.

The embassy argued that the sanctions have seriously undermined Zimbabwe’s credibility, its national image, its ability to engage and interact, and the ability of Zimbabwean companies to trade and transact beyond borders.

According to the statement, this year’s commemorations are held under the theme “Enhancing Zimbabwe’s Resilience through Economic Development and Engagement and Reengagement.”
