Yakani urges Ruto to support South Sudan peace process

The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, urged Kenya’s President William Ruto to help speed up South Sudan’s transitional process.

Yakani said Nairobi needs to support the implementation of the pending chapters of the 2018 Revitalised Agreement, arguing that a stable South Sudan serves the interests of the region.

‘‘The political stability of South Sudan has a direct impact on the economic growth of Kenyan economy.” The success of regional trade is determined by the peace and security of the region.

‘‘So it is essential for the president William Ruto to secure genuine implementation of the R-ARCSS since South Sudan offers Kenya trade great opportunity of profit making,’’ he noted.

Ruto was sworn into office on September 13 after a gruelling electoral battle with his challenger, former premier, Raila Odinga, who finished second and later on lost a court battle challenging the result at the country’s apex court.
