The governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil, will not attend the SPLM rally in Western Bahr el Ghazal State to endorse President Salva Kiir as the flagbearer of the 2024 general elections.

The CES gubernatorial press unit noted that the governor had opted to delegate SPLM State Deputy Chairperson, Emmanuel Kulang, to represent him.

The press unit said the governor could not attend in person due to what they termed “unavoidable circumstances.”

“The Governor’s delegation of Cde. Gai comes following some unavoidable circumstances that couldn’t allow him to join his colleagues who have thronged in Western Bahr-el Ghazal-Wau Town,” read the statement from the gubernatorial press.

The CES further revealed that after the visit to Wau, Kiir will head to the other states in Bahr el Ghazal Region, Upper Nile State, and Greater Equatoria states.

In May 2022, the SPLM in Central Equatoria State held a packed political rally in Juba ahead of May 16, to celebrate the start of the second liberation struggle.

The party members endorsed President Salva Kiir as the flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

In November 2022, the party conducted a three-day ideological training in Juba County, Central Equatoria State, where over 250 new members were recruited.

The SPLM Deputy Chairperson, Dr James Wani Igga, stated that the vision and mission of the party revolved around peace and development, adding that the party would provide books that contain political ideas to its members.

Governor Adil urged the youth to read the books on SPLM political ideologies.

The country will hold elections in December 2024, just two months before the slated end of the transitional period in February 2025.
