Tremor felt in Juba yesternight not harmful, says expert body

An earthquake of magnitude 5 rocked parts of South Sudan, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Monday, the Geological Society of South Sudan (GEO-SSS) said.

According to the GEO-SSS report, a light 5-magnitude earthquake shook the border region between South Sudan, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Monday night.

“It happened again at 5-magnitude this time.” According to the report, “it struck an area in the DRC, Uganda (Yumbe, Moyo, and Adjumani in Northern Uganda), and Yei in South Sudan that fell under one fault line.”

“There is nothing to be concerned about,” the body added in an X post.

“Juba should be less concerned! However, more attention should be paid to it,” GEO-SSS stated.
