Three women killed, one abducted in Jonglei State

At least three women were reportedly killed and one more abducted by unknown assailants in Duk Padiet County, Jonglei State, according to the authorities.

Elizabeth Nyadak, Jonglei State’s Information Minister, told The City Review on Sunday that the incident happened in Poktap Payam, Duk County, on Saturday.

She said a group of 16 women who left Poktap for Payut was attacked by a suspected armed group from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

“This incident happened on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock when 16 women who were going to Payut were attacked by Murle armed youth on their way to Payut,” Nyadak said.

Nyadak stated that three of the 16 women were killed and another was abducted by the criminals. She added that one woman fled into the forest after they were ambushed.

“The Murle armed youth shot at the women, killed three of the 16 women, and also abducted one woman. But the women ran dispersed into the forest when the criminals shot at them,” she claimed.

Nyadak blamed armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area for always violating peace negotiations between Jonglei and Pibor.

Meanwhile, Abraham Kelang, Pibor Administrative Area’s Information Minister, said he was not aware of the incident but promised to investigate it.

“I was actually not aware of that information and our armed youth have been maintaining their position. So, we are going to find out if the attack was carried out by our youth,” he said.
