SPLM-IO launches regional office in Jonglei State

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO), led by First Vice President Dr Riek Machar, inaugurated a new office in the Jonglei State capital, Bor.
The new office will be the state party headquarters.
The event attracted more than 3,000 people, among them women, youth, the elderly and government officials from different political parties in Jonglei State.
The party’s secretary-general, Regina Joseph, who led the exercise, said the SPLM-IO is currently focused on implementing the 2018 revitalised peace agreement, and will only champion development.
“We are not a war party; we did not go to war because we loved the war, and history is clear about that. We came back with the peace agreement and we are implementing the peace agreement… we came for good and nobody is going back for war in this country,” said Regina, as she addressed the attendees on Saturday.
She added that the party’s membership registration would start on Monday after the set up of the state secretariat.
“It is very important to register and have your identity card to show that you are a member so that you will enjoy your full rights as a member,’’ she appealed.
“Jonglei State consists of nine counties and I will ensure that the state leadership also launch the county state secretariat.” You should launch it in all counties,’’ said Regina.
She appreciated the state government for allowing the SPLM-IO to set up their general secretariat in Jonglei State adding that they have faced many challenges in other states.
Jacob Akec Dengdit, Jonglei State deputy governor, called on the other parties to cooperate with the government to help in service delivery.
“The government we have in Jonglei State is a government of coalition and everybody is a son or daughter of Jonglei State. We are implementing what the peace agreement has said, give place to everyone for democracy,” Akech said.
“All of you citizens should know that there is no government of tribes but a government of the nation. There is a government of states because without South Sudan there will be no parties,” Dengdit added.
He prevailed upon the people of Jonglei State to help the government in the implementation of the road map adding that it is not a reserve of the presidency.
