South Sudanese athletes have ended the Tanzanian U-18 and U-20 East Africa Youth Championships with three medals to their name for the first time in their history.

Sabrina Ukel won the silver medal in the female U-18 200-meter race, while James Dok Maper finished third in the men’s under-18 400-metre race to win the bronze medal, and South Sudan’s third medal came in the 4 x 100-meter team.

According to the Secretary-General of the South Sudan Athletic Federation, Marco Deng, all of the medals were won on the first day of the recently concluded U-18 and U-20 Athletics Youth Championships in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

“The team left Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, this morning and will travel through Uganda, possibly staying for a few days.”

“This time our guys improved, and as a result, we managed to win at least three medals, which is a great achievement for the team to come up with three medals in one competition,” Mr. Deng told The City Review.

According to him, as soon as the team arrived in Juba, the federation would organize another athlete’s trial for other groups so that they could join the next group to prepare for the other upcoming competition.

Eleven athletes competed in the Tanzanian U-18 and U-20 East Africa Youth Championships, which were held recently.

Six of the 11 athletes competed in U-20 events, with the remaining five competing in U-18 events.

Only one of the five participants, a lady, managed to win a silver medal, while a boy finished third to win a bronze medal, and they are all under the age of 18. The other third medal was won by a group of four in 4/100.
