Sell your cattle for a profit, VP Igga tells herders
Vice President for Economic Cluster, Dr James Wani Igga has challenged cattle herders to start commercializing their animals, saying that the days of keeping many cows for prestige are long gone.
Igga, who spoke when he opened a three-day business and economic forum that kicked off in Juba, on Thursday, said that the time has come for cattle keepers to start converting their animals into liquid cash and re-invest the money somewhere else.
“We are keeping our livestock for prestige and pride. We must enter the commercialization stage, ” Wani said.
The forum, which brought together top economists, academics, policymakers, and civil society, among others, aims at brainstorming new and innovative ways to stabilize South Sudan’s economy.
The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) Governor, Johnny Ohisa and the ministry of petroleum are just but some of the notable guests at the forum.
Ohisa is expected to give a presentation on BoSS’s blueprint for how to revamp local economic growth, market growth, and job creation.
The Ministry of Petroleum is expected to give a detailed plan for infrastructural development and sustainable generational economic growth in agricultural sectors.
The presentation will be made by minister Puot Kang Chol.
This is the first time that such an event is being held in the country.
