A constructor working on Juba-Nadapal Road was shot dead on Wednesday in Hiyala Payam, Torit County.

The constructor was on his way to clear a murram site, authorities said.

Area Paramount Chief, Galileo Ohide said the deceased was going to clear a murram site for the construction of a road when the unknown gunmen shot him dead.

“There was an agreement that the constructor made with the youth in the area so that all the murram to be collected and the youth was waiting for the site to be cleared,” he said.

Ohide said after the incident the youth pursued the attackers but did not manage to make any arrest.

“This incident has interrupted so many people from doing their activities and people are fearing to go to the farms,” Ohide stated.

Torit County Commissioner Jacob Atari Albano condemned the incidents and called on the leaders of Haforieri village to arrest the suspect.

“We condemn the incident as the government and we are not feeling good about the killing of somebody who wants to develop our place,” he said.

“I know the criminal is always not happy with someone who brings development to the country.  The security organ followed the foot mark and traced it to Haforieri and I have talked with the leaders to arrest the suspect.”

When contacted, the Haforieri youth leader said he was in Torit town and did not have any knowledge about the incident.
