Retraction and apology over UNESCO story

Retraction and apology over UNESCO story

On January 17, 2023, The City Review ran a story titled “Over 80 journalists killed in 2022, ten of them from South Sudan” on the website. We regret to announce that the article failed to capture the basic facts as had been given by the UNESCO observatory report it was based on, hence, was misleading.

We further issue a retraction and apology for the publication of another article based on the same subject, titled “over 100 journalists killed in 2022- UNESCO report” on our Issue 549. Both stories stated that 10 journalists were killed in South Sudan in 2022 which is untrue as per the UNESCO report- none was killed in that year. Thus, we offer our apology and retraction to the following: The government of the Republic of South Sudan, UNESCO and the public for this mistake and commit to flawless reportage.
