President Kiir jets back from UAE

President Salva Kiir jetted back from his official trip to the United Arab Emirates on Saturday evening.

The Office of the President noted on its Facebook page: ‘‘His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and his accompanying delegation returned home, today (Saturday, 23rd April 2022), after concluding his official working visit to the United Arab Emirates.’’

The Head of State was received at the Juba International Airport by the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar among other high-ranking government officials.

The President visited the Arab nation on April 18 for the second time in a span of two months. During his departure, the Presidential Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, revealed that Kiir had work-related engagements to honour during his stay in the UAE.

“The president will hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the UAE on the areas in which South Sudan and the UAE can further strengthen their relations and cooperation in the areas of mutual interest,” Ateny told reporters he addressed reporters at the airport.

The President was accompanied by the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak Manime, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, the Director-General of the General Intelligence Bureau, Gen. Simon Yien Makuac, and other government officials.
