According to Puok Nyang, Akobo County Commissioner, the attack happened in Makerwen village on Monday while the vehicle was travelling to Bor town.

“Well, the incident in Makerwen village when it was heading to Bor town yesterday [Monday]. So, the bus left for Bor in the morning hours and it was attacked by the criminals it was almost reaching Panyagoor, 1 hour away from Bor town. The criminals killed one person but the rest of the passengers were able to escape,” Nyang said.

Nyang said the attackers might have come from the Greater Pibor Administrative area since they have been the ones attacking Jonglei State villages on several occasions.

“I think the criminals are the armed youth from Murle Community because they have been the people attacking our villages while hiding in the forest in Jonglei,” he stressed.

He said the suspects were pursued by soldiers but they were not found.

“There were some soldiers sent after the criminals but returned without catching anyone because the criminals had already left,” he stated.
