Nilepet dismisses alleged staff strike

NilePetroleum Corporation Limited (NILEPET) refuted the allegations of an organised strike by the staff over unaddressed grievances.

In a statement seen by The City Review, Nilepet said the letter contained negative content designed by some people who harboured ill intentions against the organisation.

The purported letter, which is addressed to the Police Commissioner of Central Equatoria State, claimed that Nilepet staff were going to protest the disappearance of $25 million in the parastatal, intimidation, and harassment of the staff, among others.

In response to these allegations, Nilepet stated via their official Facebook page that it was unlawful for some people to spread lies using the letterhead of the company.

“Nilepet would like to notify the general public that using the company letterhead and branding without prior permission is an offence in accordance with the laws of South Sudan,” the statement read in part.

The cooperation threatened to take action against those involved in such acts.

“Nilepet will not hesitate to take the necessary legal action against those who continually use our image and branding to publish content in a negative light. Please be warned,” it stated

Another source from Nilepet who spoke to The City Review anonymously confirmed that the allegations of planned strike were just social media rumours.

The source stated that the staff were going on with their duties, and there was no protest.

“The letter circulating is just propaganda by the enemies of Nilepet, who have their interests.”

He appealed to the public to treat the statement as mere propaganda, which is baseless.

“Whatever is circulating on social media is fake news and should be treated as such,” he said.

He appealed to the public not to listen to such information but rather consult with the Nilepet Communication and Public Relations Department for more information.
