Nile Legends thumped 96-29 in FIBA Zone 5 tourney
The South Sudanese women’s representative at the Zone 5 Women’s Basketball Club Cup, Nile Legends, were heavily demolished by Egypt’s Alexandria Sporting Club 96-29.
The Nile Sisters of South Sudan are one of the nine teams competing in Dar es Salaam for the FIBA Africa Zone Cup for Women’s Championship. South Sudanese women are participating in the competitions for the first time.
The success of the South Sudan senior men’s team on the continental podium has been fantastic since they entered the scene in Nairobi in 2020.
Many would be shocked by the severe defeat, although there are high hopes for the women to succeed as well.
The women can outpace the Egyptian representative, but unlike the men, they are unable to win more points for their efforts.
The top shooters are greatly needed by the team to score those points frequently.
Their next contest will be against Rwanda’s REG BBC.
The contest serves as a qualification round for the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women in 2022.
The competition will last six days and is scheduled to end on October 1st.
Kenyan clubs have dominated this competition throughout the years, and the 16-time national champion Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and the three-time champion Equity Bank Hawks will once again lead the race for the championship.
