Longer, darker nights await Juba residents as JEDCO announces phase 2 of power rationing

Good news for Juba residents, as the electricity distribution company is poised to start phase 2 of the partial load-shedding programme which will guarantee longer power access in the capital city.

In the past week, JEDCO, the power supplier effected a 16-hour power rationing, which left most of the neighbourhoods with no electricity for the better part of the day.

The power outage ran from 8 am -12 am. But now, JEDCO said, the rationing will last at least 10 hours a day, from 8 am to 5 pm.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and ask you to be patient during the ongoing maintenance,” JEDCO said in a notice on their Facebook page.

The rationing attracted criticism from a section of residents.

“We are going to buy solar panels and forget this thing,” Ratoo Justin said.

Isaiah Ayuen Dhool lamented: “It’s now two days in Shirkat without power.”

Peter Mawier added: “The only thing keeping my eyes wide is that my area appears in all the times.”

The rationing will affect Juba Town, Hai Jalaba, Hai Amarat, Hai Tijaria, Hai Mobil, ministries ‘Hai Buluk, Hai Thoura, Thongpiny, Kololo, Custom, Hai Mauna, Joborona, Nyakuron, Rock City, Jebel, Kor William, Suk Kuma and Suk Mamur.

Hai Cinema, Hai Malakal, Konyokonyo, Hai Malakia, Hai Neem, Nimra Talata, Kator, Suk Sita, Giada, Jebel, Kor William, Gumbo-Sherikat, Bridge Riverside, Lologo and Kassaba will not have power at night.
