Kiir plans to construct a basketball arena

President Salva Kiir has directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to come up with plans to construct a basketball arena in the country.

This information was disclosed by Dr Albino Bol Dhieu, the Youth and Sports Minister.

According to Albino, President Kiir was impressed with the recent performance of the national men’s basketball team and promised to “assist” the team in the ongoing FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and other upcoming competitions.

“And the important news about the meeting is that President Kiir directed the ministry of youth and sports to come up with the proposals for indoor facilities for basketball and other related games,” Albino told the basketball spectators in Juba.

“Your victory has united the people of South Sudan and recruited many friends for us. You have started a fight to put South Sudan on the world map to be recognized. “You made us proud and our heads are held high because of you,” said President Kiir while addressing the players at the state-house J1 on Wednesday.

“I will continue to work hand in hand with you to support you to get whatever you need to perform better in your field,” he added.

If implemented, that arena will be the first in the country.

Albino, however, did not disclose when the ministry will start the process.

South Sudan is just one game away from booking a maiden ticket to the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
