Kanyikwa: More refugees return home in Yei

The Commissioner of Yei River County, Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa, said calm returned to Yei as many returnees continued coming back from Uganda and Congo.

According to the statement obtained from the Gubernatorial Press Unit (GPU), Kanyikwa remarked during a briefing to the Central Equatoria state governor at the state headquarters in Juba.

Kanyikwa noted that security remains calm as many refugees from neighbouring Uganda and Congo continue to come home.

“Commissioner Cyrus also confirmed a significant progress registered in the return initiative as refugees in the neighbouring countries of DRC and Uganda are voluntarily resettling and integrating into their restive areas of origin,” the statement from GPU partly read.

He revealed that hundreds of families continue to return home from Uganda and the Congo from time to time.

According to the GPU, both Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony and the commissioner brainstormed on various ways of maintaining security situations to bring the citizens back home.

He said the county remained committed to ensuring that Yei returns to its previous status of a great town known for its peaceful existence.

He added that the residents continue to be engaged in their various activities such as trade while farmers concentrate on production.

The commissioner claimed that the general security situation in Yei became normal following the reduced negative activities of the forces loyal to Gen.Thomas Cirillo of NAS.

Governor Adil re-directed the commissioner to continue with his sustained efforts to restore peace and security stabilisation in the county.
