Jonglei, CES organises wrestling duel to celebrate construction of Bor-Juba Road

Residents of Jonglei and Central Equatoria states will organise a big-money wrestling match to usher in newly constructed Bor-Juba Road.

The game, which is sponsored to the tune of SSP12 million, will bring together slightly over 40 wrestlers from the two neighbouring states.

The match is scheduled for September 24, 2022 in Jemeiza Terekeka County.

“Come and support our boys in celebration of the development [road construction],” Mayen Reech, chairperson Jonglei Wrestling Association told City Review.

The two associations will share between themselves.

“Every association will receive SSP6 million,” Reech told The City Review.

“It is not going to be given to individual winners. Howeve​​r, it is the responsibility of each association to support its wrestlers, “he added.

According to Reech, the wrestling match is planned to draw 21 wrestlers from each side and has as its main goals of celebrating the completion of Juba-Bor Highway and bringing the guys of the two wrestling clubs together.

Some of the wrestlers include “One-Two” of Terekeka and Maduk ​Kulang ​from Jonglei State.

Akuak appealed to wrestling fans to turn up in large numbers and grace the event.

Wrestling is one of the most popular sports in South Sudan, particularly among livestock keepers.

It is popular among the Mundari people in Central Equatoria State, and in Jonglei and Lakes states as well. The game is yet to be commercialised.
