I came to reform the SPLM, says Bol Mel
The First Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Mobilization for the SPLM party, Benjamin Bol Mel, defended his decision to join the murky world of politics, explaining that his intention is to bring reforms in the ruling party.
Addressing the SPLM members during the official launch of President Kiir’s endorsement as SPLM flag bearer by the Equatoria region on Thursday, Mel promised to transfer the knowledge acquired in the corporate circles into politics with an aim of reinforcing SPLM.
“I came here to do some reforms; not negative ones, but for the good of us, for the unity of our people, and for the good of the party (SPLM),” Bol said.
He said that every party’s strength depends on the efforts of the cadres and that is why for SPLM, there has been a lot of training.
“We shall have the training that will take place starting from the secretariat up to the grassroots. I would not disclose any country as of now,” he said.
Bol added that there is a need for all the SPLM party members in the country to support the party in preaching peace and unity.
He appealed to the members of the SPLM in the Equatoria region to remain committed to the SPLM, supporting President Salva Kiir in his candidature.
“Let us show our commitment, loyalty, love, and discipline for the party by endorsing our President Salva Kiir. We all know how much greater Egypt contributed during liberation,” he said.
He stated that the Equatoria region is known for showing the people of South Sudan the road to freedom, adding that it was where the liberation war started.
He appealed to the Equatoria region to engage in mobilizations as the election nears.
“Let us go out to our counties and unite them as one to support Salva Kiir Mayardit,” he said.
According to Mel, the SPLM secretariat will work hand in hand with the Equatoria region during this election season and will always remain committed to bringing development to the country.
In March, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is also the Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), appointed Dr Mel as the First Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and Mobilization.
He then added him responsibility of being the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Programs in December 2022.
