I am safe: Lam says over alleged murder attempt
SPLM-IO spokesperson Lam Paul.

The spokesperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO), Col. Lam Paul, assured that he was safe after an alleged assassination attempt.

“I am ok and safe, doing my work and moving freely,” Lam told The City Review, in response to rumours that his life was in danger.

He added that the incident was reported to the SSPDF chief of defence forces to investigate.

“The good thing is that yesterday the incident was reported to the Chief of Defence Forces, Santino Deng Wol, and I believe they will follow up on the issue from there and find out what happened and why it happened, if at all it happened,” Lam said.

According to the statement dated 21/2/2024 addressed to CTSAMVM, the Deputy Chairperson of SPLM-IO, Oyet Nathaniel Pierino, reported that some military men suspected to be from SSPDF trailed and intercepted a personal car belonging to Col. Lam Paul.

“Today, February 21, 2024, at around 9:00 a.m. local time in Gudele II, in Juba, two (2) numberless military armoured vehicles suspected to belong to the Military Intelligent Unit of the SSPDF trailed and intercepted a personal car belonging to Col. Lam Paul Gabriel, the official spokesperson of SPLA-IO,” the statement read.

According to Oyet, Lam was not in the car when the incident occurred and the driver who was in the car was whisked to an unknown location on the outskirts of Juba and left stranded.

He called on the CTSAMVM to investigate the incident, citing that it was a violation of the peace agreement.

However, efforts to reach the SSPDF spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, for comment, were not successful, as many calls were not answered.
