Gov’t announces three-day holiday for Christmas fete

The National Ministry of Labour has announced a three-day Christmas holiday that will commence next week, Friday, December 24, a day before the x-mas.

According to the circular dated December 17, 2021, and signed by the Undersecretary, Mary Pitia which the City Review has obtained a copy of, all the offices will cease operation till Tuesday, December 27, 2021.

“The National Ministry of Labour hereby informs all the Civil Service Institutions, Commissions, diplomatic Missions, UN Agencies, International and national and National Non-Governmental organisations (NGOs) and the public at large that Christmas Holyday shall commence on Friday 24, December 2021 until Monday 27, December 2021. Work resumes on Tuesday 28 December 2021,” partly read the circular.

It further read that “The public is also informed that Saturday 1st January 2022 will be a public holiday and that all employees shall resume work on Monday, January 3, 2022.”

Christians around the world celebrate Christmas Day on December 25 to commemorate the birthday of Jesus Christ which is characterised by visits and the exchange of gifts.

This year will be expected to be an unhindered celebration since the outbreak of COVID-19 and its subsequent restriction in the past two years.
