Flood, pests destroy crops in Yirol West County
Authorities of Aluakluak Payam in Yirol West County, Lakes State, lamented that all the crops in the area have been destroyed by flood and pests.
The Administrator of Mapuordit Payam in Yirol West County, Daniel Dhieu, said on Friday that several people from Ngo villages have been displaced by the floods to the Mapuordit Payam headquarters.
“I have more than 10 villages that have been displaced by the flood, and secondly, I have pests that are eating crops, and the flood also destroyed crops, which will later cause hunger in my payam,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UNMISS coordinator in the Rumbek field office, Kwame Dwamena Aboagye, said their purpose is to help and support the government to protect civilians.
He said their visit to the area was to engage the local people to check on the security situation and check on the institution on the issues of human rights violations.
He said that apart from human rights, they also need to find out the needs of the community to be able to communicate with other partners to come and intervene.
However, the devastating flooding has also affected road transportation through the Bahr el Ghazal highway linking Yirol West and Rumbek East counties to the state capital, Rumbek.
