The SPLM members in Equatoria region vowed to rally behind President Salva Kiir in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Addressing SPLM members on Thursday, SPLM Second Deputy Secretary General for Administration and Finance, Mary Ayiga, who is also the head of the committee for President Salva Kiir’s endorsement in the Equatoria region, promised a strong support base for the president.

“I want all of you today to take home a strong message from here that we are all for President Salva Kiir Mayardit, and he is our sole presidential candidate for the 2024 general election,” Ayiga said.

She added that the launch for endorsement of the president would attract a mammoth of the party membership, like in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal.

“Let us endorse His Excellency General Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit as our presidential candidate for the 2024 general election. He will fulfill all our liberation ideas and achieve the desired objective that we fought for as people of Equatoria,” she said, adding the head of state will lead the country to prosperity.

“I call on all the Equatoria to unite under the leadership of Salva Kiir Mayardit; he will take us through the next phase of economic vibrancy, infrastructural development, and propensity,” she added.

Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emanuel Adil, also promised that the region would stand with President Kiir, as he appreciated the party leadership for selecting his state for the upcoming event.

“We say Equatoria is for Salva Kiir in 2024, and we thank Comrade Salva Kiir and the leadership of the SPLM for taking the wise decision by selecting Juba for this great occasion that is going to occur soon,” Adil said.

He added that as part of preparation, the region has formed heads of state committees who are geared towards mobilization and organization of people for the event.

“We have one message for you: from today we have to continue mobilising our people so that we are ready to come to Juba peacefully,” he said.

He added that the upcoming endorsement would answer those who might doubt Equatoria’s support for the SPLM since liberation.

Adil called on the public and SPLM to turn up for the event scheduled for Juba.

“I call upon all SPLM members, irrespective of states, to come and join us in Juba for that great occasion,” he appealed.

The SPLM Second Deputy Chairperson, Daniel Awet Akot, said President Kiir was selected as the flagbearer because he is considered acceptable by everyone.

“Our only flag bearer is Salva Kiir Mayratdit because he is the only person left by God; let us help God and let him continue,” Awet said.
