SPLA IO officials after the swearing in ceremony of the newly-appointed minister at the state secretariat in Torit on Friday.

The recently-appointed Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment in Eastern Equatoria State, Ochola Bosco Oringa, was sworn into office on Friday.

Ochola was appointed last month in a presidential decree to replace Placid Kok Komakech.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Torit on Friday, Ochola promised to collaborate with the state leadership, citizens, and stakeholders to promote agricultural activities in the state.

“I would like also to urge all the partners and the stakeholders to cooperate in this service ministry of agriculture because it is the food basket when we talked of food it hit the attention of everybody,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mark Lochapio, the state minister of peacebuilding who also serves as the secretary for the SPLM IO, urged the new minister of agriculture to help improve the agricultural sector in the state.

“We need to work together and promote agricultural production in Eastern Equatoria State…we don’t have to rely on the food from the neighboring countries,” he said.

Lochapio said it was a great day for the entire SPLM-IO party and he called on the parties to the peace agreement to work together for the smooth implementation of the agreement in letter and spirit.

Governor Louis Lobong directed the new minister to ensure the illegal logging is stopped.

“We want to make sure that, these people who are logging and taking our forest illegally should stop if there is a need to do it let us do it officially so that we make use of the resources rather than individuals taking it,” Lobong said.
