EES demands answers on status of Torit varsity
The Eastern Equatoria State is demanding an explanation from the ministry of higher education on the status of Torit University in Juba.
The authorities accused the university of non-compliance with the state government after obtaining a license from the ministry of higher education.
The Director-General in the State Ministry of Education, Gabriel Oliha, highlighted the urgent need to investigate the institution.
“Our members of parliament, minister and the top government officials, you have to form the committee to investigate the high education. Why is Torit University is operating in Juba?” he posed.
According to him, the university should relocate to Torit to accommodate students who have been promoted to higher institutions of learning.
Oliha made the remarks during the declaration of the secondary school certificate 2021/2022 in Torit on Wednesday,
“We are losing a lot of things, and Torit technical school is just left in Juba and nobody wants to talk about it.”
“I was told to open the bank account for Torit technical school, and when I opened it, nothing came out of it, as the state is not progressing,” Oliha asked.
The director-general blamed the ministry of high education for not telling the administration of Torit University to relocate from Juba.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Mary-Alphonse Lodira said he would send a high delegation to come to Juba and meet with the ministry of high education over the matter.
“We need Torit University as soon as possible, and I don’t like people to go one by one, but you go as a team,” she said.
