Drunk driver detained for snoring in court

A woman who was arrested on drink-driving charges was detained for showing up in court while drunk
Sharon Oparanya, a Nairobi resident was detained after she dozed off and started snoring loudly while appearing at a traffic court.
She had been arrested for driving while drunk.
“Wait wait! Why is she snoring in court, is that someone sleeping in my court?” a Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi was quoted by K24 Digital.

She was remanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
“Your honour, she is drunk and that’s why she is sleeping in court,” Court Orderly told the magistrate.
The magistrate ordered that Oparanya, who was arrested while driving her Mercedes-Benz, be remanded until Friday when she will answer to the charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“September 22, 2022, at 7:35 am along Ngong Road ‘being the driver of a Mercedes-Benz did drive on a public road under the influence of alcohol to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the said motor vehicle,” read the charge sheet.
