BREAKING: Six Brights Stars’ players to miss World Cup

Six players have been ruled out of the basketball national team – the Bright Stars’ upcoming FIBA World Cup in the Philippines with various ‘injuries’, the federation has said.

The unspecified injuries’ were revealed barely two weeks before the world’s biggest basketball competition throws off in three Asian countries – Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan.

The six include Jackson Makoi, Padiet Wang, Bul Kuol, JT Thor, Emmanuel Malou and Jo Lual-Acuil.

“We regret to inform the SSD family that six Bright Stars sustained injuries prior to training camp and will not be able to compete in the World Cup,” the association said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the federation called up four additional players Carlik Jones, Gabriel Wenyen, Marial Shayok, and Mangok Mathiang to the squad.

The national team is currently in Australia from where they will depart straight to the Phillipines.

South Sudan is in Group B alongside Puerto Rico, Serbia and China.

Bright Stars will open their campaign against Puerto Rico on August 26.
