You probably still remember Sergio Kun Agüero, the former Manchester City forward who was forced out of football by heart-related complications.

Agüero won titles with the Citizens where he was a constant threat to defenders – most of those from Arsenal, a team he enjoyed terrorizing during his active playing time at the Etihad Stadium.

Agüero, a close friend of Lionel Messi, himself a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who steered Argentina to a world victory in Qatar last December, is married to Giannina.

Interestingly though, Giannina is the youngest daughter of Diego Maradona, the Argentinian’s great and global sporting iconic figure.

Though Agüero and Gainnina have since split, they two have a son together – Benjamin, an inspiring footballer with thick sporting connections.

Because of Aguero’s close relationship with Messi, since their days in the national team together – the former who once described the Paris Saint-Germain star as “like a brother”, picked Messi as the godfather of his son –Benjamin.

So close was Agüero to Messi that later has since decided not to share a room with anyone, while on international duty, after Aguero retired from football.

Benjamin and his godfather – Lionel Messi.

In march 2022, Benjamin who has Agüero as his father, Maradona his paternal grandfather and Messi as a godfather, joined the Argentine side Tigre as he starts the journey of walking in the shadow of some of the greatest football names.

This relationship makes Benjamin among a few people a healthy and flowering footballing family tree.

He is already showing that he has the goalscoring skills of his famous father Sergio and maternal grandfather Maradona and his father’s best friend –Messi.

Aguero, who has told his son to take his training seriously, insists that he will not force his son to follow the family tradition if he does not want to play football.

“I am quite demanding and honest,” Aguero said in a gaming live stream on his Twitch channel last year.

“If I’m going to go see him play, I don’t want to see him if he doesn’t try or he doesn’t care. If he is really going to want to play because he loves soccer, perfect. If he doesn’t care and goes as a hobby, he doesn’t go with me,” added the former Barcelona star who was forced out of football last year on medical grounds.
