Athletes shine in national trial competition in Juba

Preparation for the next year’s presidential athletic championship in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has started with National Athletic Federation organizing National Trial Athletic competitions in Juba.

The national trial championship is aimed at finding the best athletes that will be competing in next year’s Presidential Athletic championships and selecting the best athletes for the country’s national team.

The Juba national trial championships attracted athletes from the Greater Jonglei State, Pibor Administrative area, and Eastern Equatoria State and Central Equatoria State.

Below are some of the athletes who took part in the competition.

In 100 metres men’s finals, Stephen Levo topped the group by finishing in 11.26 (minutes, seconds), followed by Mangar Chop (11.34) and Elizah Lojuron  (11.38) respectively.

While in women’s finals, Christine John topped the group with a timecode of 13.75 followed by Jane Kiden (13.77) and Mary Athei.

In 200 metres men’s finals, the participants were: Elisah Lojuron (23.05), Daniel William (23.48), and Ring Ambroose (23.76).  Meanwhile, for Women 200 metres, Christine John (13.75) emerged as the winner followed by Jane Kiden (13.77) and Mary Athei finishing the third.

In 400 metres men’s finals, the group was topped by Joseph Akoon (50.42), Stephen Levo (51.22) and James Dok (52.35). Women in this category were  Julia Joseph (1-08.97) in position one, Roda Nyajek with (1-12.87).

The other categories included 800 metres, 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres. The top three finishes will be prepared to participate in next year’s presidential athletic championship in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Aweil.

The South Sudan will organize similar national athletics trial competitions in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and Western Bahr el Ghazal State later this month.
