Albino backs new minister after his dismissal

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Albino Bol Dhieu, has welcomed the decision by President Salva Kiir to relieve him and called on South Sudan youth to rally behind the new minister.

“I call upon all the youth to rally behind your leadership and support our newly appointed Minister of Youth and Sports, Cde. Dr. Joseph Geng Akech, and work together for the peace and betterment of our beloved country, South Sudan,” he said.

Bol was fired and replaced with Dr. Joseph Geng Akech. However, it is believed that the reason for the dismissal was connected to wrangles within the youth union under his ministry.

Although the decree came at a surprising moment, Dr. Bol, according to the statement seen by The City Review, appreciated President Salva Kiir for the time given to him to serve the youth.

“I welcome your decision wholeheartedly. Dear Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President, I would like to seize this opportunity to thank and appreciate you, Your Excellency, for the great chance you have given me to serve my country at the prime of my age,” Bol said.

Dr. Albino Bol Dhieu was appointed in March 2020 when the president formed the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) as stipulated in the revitalized peace agreement
Bol got the position under the ticket of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
