Activist wants immediate solution to Tombura crisis

The executive director of Save the Marginalised Organization in Juba is appealing to Western Equatoria State to fight insecurity in the area.

“We are writing to urge for immediate action towards supporting initiatives aimed at fostering reconciliation and healing among communities affected by the conflicts in Tombura, Ezo and Nagero Counties and the entire Western Equatoria State territory,” noted Seba Murangi in a press release yesterday.

According to Seba, the recent events have demonstrated the urgent need for dialogue, reconciliation, and non-violent conflict resolution.

“The ongoing conflict has resulted in immense suffering for innocent civilians, displacement of families, and loss of lives, disappearance and widespread destruction of infrastructure,” she said.

She stressed that it is imperative that all parties involved prioritse the well-being of the communities and seek peaceful resolutions to their differences.

“We call upon all parties involved to cease all hostilities immediately and engage in constructive dialogue, respect international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians, including humanitarian workers and facilities,” she added.  

She said there is need to facilitate humanitarian access to deliver essential aid to those in need and commit to inclusive peace negotiations that represent the diverse voices of the affected population.

She added that the government need to invest in long-term sustainable solutions that address the root causes of the conflict, including socio-economic disparities and political grievances.

“It is only through genuine cooperation and mutual respect that lasting peace can be achieve. It is high time to support all efforts towards reconciliation and the establishment of a just and sustainable peace through political will by state and National government and Civil Society Organizations to join us in advocating for peace and taking concrete steps towards a brighter and more peaceful future for all,” said Seba.
