‚ÄčAt least 20 herds of cattle have been returned to their owners after local youth quelled an attempted raid by youth from across the border.

Authorities in Kapoeta East County of Eastern Equatoria State said the attempted raid took place in Lopwua on Thursday morning.

The latest raid took place just a few days after Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong met with Kenyan authorities to come up with modalities on how to end cross-border cattle rustling.

Lobong also called for peaceful co-existence among neighbouring communities.

Abdallah Angelo Lokeno, Kapoeta East County Commissioner, told City Review that at least 20 cattle were rescued from the hands of raiders suspected to have crossed from the Kenyan side.

The commissioner further called on the government to move fast and help address rampant cross-border raids, adding that both countries should deploy troops along the borderline to protect civilians without turning against them.
