Child dies after monkey snatch baby from breastfeeding mother
A village in Tanzania is yet to come to terms with the untimely demise of an infant who lost his life from injuries in a fight with monkey.
The monkeys had reportedly invaded the home of a breastfeeding woman and snatched the baby from her mother before attempting to run away with him, into the forest.
“She screamed for help and villagers rushed to her house to assist her in getting her child…back from the troop of monkeys,” Kigoma Regional Police Commander James Manyama was quoted by The Citizen.
The incident happened last Saturday, at Mwamgongo village in Kigoma, northeastern Tanzania.
The village borders Gombe National Park.
The villagers were forced to use force to rescue the minor who sustained a head injury in the process. “He got injured on the head and the neck,” Manyama said.
The baby was then rushed to a nearby hospital but died while receiving treatment.
